I work with adult individuals and couples

Individual sessions are 50 minutes/$185

Couple sessions are 50 minutes/$200 or 75 minutes/$300

I have both in person and virtual appointment options

My philosophy is that our connection with others can be a powerful tool for healing, growth, and positive change. While therapy itself can be a complex process, it is ultimately based on a safe, consistent, and non-judgmental relationship. I draw from the fields of neuroscience, interpersonal neurobiology, and attachment theory which emphasize the importance of human relationships.

Part of the role as therapist is being a witness to another person's experience, in its true and often painful form. This means that prior to looking at change or growth, my job is to hang in there with you. Rather than turning away from emotional pain, we remain present and curious. When we do this, we maximize tolerance for unpleasant feelings and sensations, and build your capacity to endure change and uncertainty.

I have respect for all coping strategies, whether deemed "unhealthy" or "irrational." I believe these are all attempts at protection and adaptation. I can help you move away from old habits without judgment around them. Then, we can work to discover healthier coping skills you feel comfortable with.

My style is straightforward and focuses on compassion and empowerment. I deeply value people’s individual experiences and ensure decisions regarding the course of therapy are collaboratively decided. Trust, flexibility and safety are my top priorities for our relationship.

Couples

Working with couples is a deeply satisfying part of my job. I find that partners do not realize their effect on each other, but with this understanding they can greatly minimize stress and conflict in their lives. Relationship counseling helps people utilize their connection so that it becomes a resource and support rather than a stressor.

I work with couples who would like to:

-proactively build a strong foundation in their relationship

-work through painful circumstances and/or patterns (infidelity, loss, deception, conflict, dysfunctional family dynamics)

-adjust to new circumstances (pregnancies, job transitions, pandemic related changes to daily life)

-deepen connection and intimacy

-navigating neurodiversity within their relationship

While I have received training in a variety of relational and systems modalities, the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy, developed by Dr. Stan Tatkin, has the strongest influence on how I work. I have spent years studying under Dr. Tatkin and am a Level II PACT certified clinician. PACT works with nonverbal subtleties and nervous system regulation in a powerful way that differs from traditional approaches to couples work. So, even if you’ve gone to couples counseling before and left disappointed or feel you’ve tried everything, I’d love a chance to work with you using this more transformational framework.

nourishing Creativity

I really enjoy working with artists, writers, or those who don’t work in an artistic field but who want to improve how they connect with their creative energy. Creativity is such an important energy in people’s lives. For those who work in demanding creative professions, therapy can help navigate how to fit such deeply personal work into the confines of schedules, deadlines, and potential criticism by looking at self-doubt, exposure vulnerability, and how closely tied your work is to sense of worth.

For others, therapy can help identify and work with the discomfort of overwhelming creative energy and ways creative impulse has been shut down. I enjoy helping people tap into their creative side to inject more vitality into their work, responsibilities, relationships, and daily life. I also believe utilizing creative expression can deepen therapeutic work on anxiety, depression, sexuality, trauma resolution, and grief.

Consultation

Therapy is a huge investment of one’s time and money and there is a lot to consider when choosing a provider. Prior to working together, I offer prospective clients a written description of what one can expect when working with me, as well as a 30 minute consultation call to ensure we are a good fit.
